Inspiring UK Young People to Reach Their Potential

As the world focused in on the recent UK riots, a West Midlands based church, in partnership with the Proton Foundation, is working to help raise young teenagers' expectations and aspirations for the future.

Funded by a National Health Service grant and working with 10 young people aged 13-14, UK Proton partner Amblecote Christian Centre, delivered the ‘Reach Your Potential’ project.

Reach Your Potential

The course which seeks to help young people believe they really can achieve their full potential, took place in a  local school, strengthening the developing connection ACC has with the community  through its local youth clubs and activities.  The school identified young people who they felt would benefit from the programme, either because they had a lack confidence or belief in their potential to achieve more. The course was delivered over 6 weeks, during school time, running 2 sessions a week.

Using the PX2 programme (developed by The Pacific Institute) the group looked together at belief systems, goal setting, self talk, motivation and much more.

Tim Barton, Proton Facilitator and director of the project said, "We have only just begun analysing the results and impact of the sessions, but things are already looking very positive. Using before/after surveys we have found out that out of 9 young people who completed the surveys 7 young people reported that they felt confident more of the time. 5 out of the 9 felt they could deal with problems better following the course. We’re hoping as we collect more results this positive trend continues."

During the summer break The Proton Foundation Education team will be reviewing the outcomes and success of the programme with the ACC Director, with a view to exploring how to further develop and deliver the programme in the future.

The Foundation are looking to develop partnerships with other similar youth organisations.  For more information about partnership opportunities for the PX2 programme, contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
